Employee Highlight: Aby Rajan

Meet Aby, our Warehouse Associate, who plays a vital role in keeping our operations running smoothly. From coordinating logistics to supporting the emergency team, Aby brings dedication and teamwork to everything he does.

“Once I put on the ARS Responds Canada uniform, I represent the company. My actions speak on behalf of ARS Responds Canada, and I want to reflect an attitude that makes the company proud.” - Aby Rajan

PART ONE • Meet Aby

Briefly introduce yourself.

I started my career at ARS Responds Canada as a driver and gradually took on more responsibilities. Over time, I transitioned into the role of Warehouse Associate, where I assist the Emergency Team and coordinate with the Procurement Team to source and manage logistics. This includes securing materials from various vendors and ensuring they are delivered to job sites or the warehouse efficiently.

What makes your role unique?

Every day in my role is different, which makes it exciting. No two days are the same—I get to work on a variety of tasks, visit new places, and meet different people. My job is never monotonous, and I truly enjoy the dynamic nature of it. Most importantly, I get to work with an amazing team, which makes even the busiest days enjoyable and never lets me feel burdened with work.

What’s your favourite part of your job, and why?

My favourite part of the job is the team I work with. It’s a privilege to be surrounded by such wonderful people. I ask a lot of questions, and no matter how simple or complicated they are, I’ve never been made to feel uncomfortable. I want to take this opportunity to thank my mentor, Mr. Eugene Capoccia—he has taught me so much, and I’m grateful for his guidance.

How do you define success in your role?

For me, success is about fully committing to the job—both mentally and physically. There are no shortcuts. It’s important to understand the significance of the work, respect the people we interact with (whether they are customers, vendors, or coworkers), and take pride in representing ARS Responds Canada. Every time I put on the uniform, I remind myself that my actions speak on behalf of the company, and I want to make sure my attitude makes the company proud.

Can you share a recent challenge you faced at work and how you handled it?

One of the most challenging situations I faced recently was during a snowstorm in Mississauga, when we had a shortage of water at a job site. I had to make multiple trips in a cube van, delivering skids of water late into the night. Throughout this process, the Procurement Team, Dimitri and Steve, provided incredible support—finding pickup locations and coordinating logistics. Driving a cube van on Highway 401 in those conditions gave me an adrenaline rush, but overcoming that challenge made it all worth it.

Teamwork is a big part of what we do. How do you help create a strong, collaborative team environment?

A strong team isn’t just about completing tasks—it’s about building a sense of camaraderie and respect. I see my workplace as my second home, and I believe teamwork is about more than just working together. Otherwise, it would just feel like a cold building made of brick, cement and drywall. Teamwork means putting egos aside, listening, taking responsibility, and sometimes even owning up to mistakes to help a colleague. Stepping into someone else’s shoes can make a world of difference. It’s about trust, understanding, and looking out for one another, like a family. It’s all about brotherhood, it’s about seeing people as humans and in the end it’s all about attitude.

What skills have helped you succeed in your role?

The most important skills in my role are a eagerness to learn and a positive attitude. Being open to challenges and staying eager to grow has helped me the most. Courage and adaptability are also key—you can’t be afraid to take on something new.

How do you keep up with industry trends and best practices?

I stay updated by reading articles, using social platforms, and taking advantage of the endless information available at our fingertips. Whether it’s through ChatGPT, Google, or other sources, I try to absorb as much as I can to stay informed.

Our core values are Trust, Integrity, Exceeding, and Teamwork. Where do you see these values in action at ARS Responds Canada?

I see it in every part of ARS Responds Canada —I have witnessed it firsthand, and I am proud to be a part of this company. The aura is present in everyone I’ve met, regardless of their position or department. Our core values shine through in each of us. They have been cultivated and nurtured over the years, much like a fruit tree carefully tended by its gardener. That care has ensured it grows strong, bearing sweet fruit and providing shade to those around it.

PART TWO • WORK & GROWTH

What’s one piece of advice that has made a big impact on your career?

“It’s not your aptitude but your attitude that determines your altitude.” That advice has stuck with me and shaped the way I approach my work.

What’s one skill or lesson you’ve learned at ARS Responds Canada that you’ll carry with you?

I’ve learned that if you approach your work with courage and a good spirit, the entire organization will stand behind you when you need them the most.

What was your first job, and what did it teach you?

My first job was with Indian Railways as a Tourism Supervisor. It taught me how to be independent, as my first posting was 2,000 km away from home. It also gave me real-life experience in dealing with people from all walks of life.

Who was a mentor, teacher, or leader that made a lasting impression on you, and why?

Mr. M.K. Vasu, my senior at Indian Railways, had a significant impact on me. He taught me bookkeeping, helped me understand how departments function, and showed me how to navigate bureaucracy in a government job. More importantly, he taught me to stand up for what I believe in.

Who was your favourite teacher in school, and what makes them so memorable?

Mr. Mathews, my English teacher, was my favourite. I grew up in a small town in Kerala, India, and thanks to him, we not only learned English but also developed a love for reading books.

What’s a small daily habit that helps you stay focused or motivated?

Every day, I start by praying and expressing gratitude. I’m thankful for another day, another opportunity to experience life’s adventures, and for all the unpredictable twists that make life exciting.

This is your first post…” nên cảm giác như site mới dựng hoặc mới set up xong, nhưng trình bày vẫn gọn gàng.
